Yoga Classes for Everyone
Yoga classes and meditation sittings at The Studio are open to all, regardless of age, ability, or previous experience. Each class at our studio in Westfield, New York, usually has between 5 and 15 students and is guided by the instructor and sometimes an assistant, who will offer personal guidance during the class. While the atmosphere is casual and enjoyable, we take our teaching seriously. Our wish is to encourage you to create a personal practice while continuing to use our classes for inspiration on your journey. Be sure to ask about our private sessions as well.
Class Descriptions - Feb 12 - March 28, 2020
Meditation is always considered a "practice," whether you are new to it or not. But what technique works for you may be different than what works for others. In this class, which is open to new and experienced meditators, we will practice conscious breathing to help still the mind before experiencing a different meditation technique each week. Our intention is to help you discover what invites you to go the deepest and brings you to a place of equanimity.
Gentle Yoga & Relaxation (Restorative)
This class is based on the fundamental physiological principles that encourage the relaxation response. We practice gentle breathing techniques, yoga postures, and use specific props to open the body in a comfortable way to encourage mental and physical relaxation. Every aspect of this class is designed to nurture you and help reduce stress.
Beginning Yoga 1
This class is specifically for those with no previous yoga experience, with back issues, or for those who want to reinforce their understanding of the basic yoga practices. The intention of the class is to help you learn to breathe with awareness, stretch and strengthen your body gently, and relax completely.
Beginning Yoga 2
For those with a minimum of experience, this class will offer you a continuation from the Beginning Yoga 1 class, or could also serve as a starting point to your yoga journey. Continue to enjoy your study of basic yoga postures along with enhancing your understanding of breathing and relaxation techniques.
Beginning Yoga 2 - Continuing Yoga 1
For those with some experience, we offer this mixed-level class. We will continue to work on giving you a firm foundation while exploring ways to evolve in your practice.
Continuing Yoga Level l or 1-2
Yoga is a vast and varied subject that can offer myriad possibilities for exploration. These class levels continually build upon and further your study and experience of the philosophy of yoga, as well as the physical practices including preparation for, and practice of, beneficial inversions.
Continuing Yoga Level 2 & Up
For those with 2 or more years of yoga experience, we broaden and deepen all aspects of your yoga practice and understanding, incorporate inversions more regularly and include occasional experiences of mindful vinyasa in the Thursday morning class.
Yoga for Back Care
For those with chronic or sporadic back discomfort, this class will help you understand where your discomfort comes from and address ways to prevent and mediate that discomfort if it occurs.
Mindful Flow Yoga
These multi-level classes will be a complete yoga practice designed to inspire your home practice and have balancing and relaxing effects. Every class will contain centering, a mindful and meditative flow of postures set to music, as well as conscious breathing and deep relaxation.
Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) is a meditative practice for deep relaxation and transformation. It is a guided meditation practiced lying down in a savasana (supported relaxation) setup. The practice of Yoga Nidra allows you access to the fertile ground of the subconscious mind between the states of wakeful awareness and deep sleep. In this state lies the wisdom of your true nature where you can plant the seeds of positive change. Come experience the restorative effect this ancient practice will have on your modern life.
